August: Quilt Season in Nashville

  • Israeli orthopedic clogs? Check.
  • Lightweight shoulder bag with zipper? Check.
  • Digital camera, charged battery, empty memory card? Check.
  • Cellphone, driver's license, credit card, wad of cash? Check.
  • No bra? Check.
  • Snack lunch? Check.
  • Stoical attitude toward infuriating parking fees? Check.
  • Wild-eyed enthusiasm? Check!

The Nashville AQS Show at Opryland begins tomorrow. I attended my first AQS show there two years ago, a wide-eyed and clueless newbie. Last year I bitterly missed the event due to our cursed cruise to Scandinavia (believe me, in 10 days I didn't have the cumulative fun of one day at the quilt show). This year my calendar has been marked since last August, I've saved my shekels, and I'm girded for the insane road "improvements" between here and there. I will grit my teeth at Opryland's naked gouging for parking, skip their $10 baked potato, walk till my back aches and my dogs bark. I will yak it up with vendors, be humbled by the talents of others, get drunk on color and creativity excess, and spend way too much money on things I can't live without. Can you spell H-E-A-V-E-N ?

I'm soooo envious!! For a while, earlier this year, I thought I'd make it to Tennesee--to see a couple aunts near Knoxville and the AQS show in Nashville. Enjoy every minute (and take lots of photos to share if they allow them).

LOL!! I so love your checklist and your description. How can you not have a BLAST with that attitude!? I wish I was going with you!

Sophie and Rian, how I WISH I had your company. I don't have a single quilting buddy outside cyberworld, and it would be fun to share in person. Am too pooped to detail the day right now. Suffice to say, I'm going back tomorrow! (How can I not? I found a way to beat Opryland out of their damn $10 parking fee, so tomorrow's admission price is the same as free!)

But I would have had so much more fun with you. Next year? It's me, you, and the papoose!
