Sew, very old one....

My very funny daughter the lawyer is an expert mimic and can recall every funny movie line she ever heard. When I took up sewing again a couple of years ago, trying to make do on the kitchen table one day, she breezed through and in breathy voice said, "Sew, very old one; sew like the wind!" I hooted and she admitted the line was not original, but from a Martin Short movie, "The Three Amigos."

As mentioned in earlier posts, I was a self-taught sewer, off and on for 30 years, when the anticipation of my new granddaughter drove me back to the needle. I try to close the learning gap, but I realize it will not happen in time; I will die still trying to become a better sewer. Poor eyesight, shaking fingers, forgetfulness--all the demons of old age--will tragically cut short my budding artistry!

And because I am sooooo darn slow about every step (quilting has taught me I have both the patience and the will to do it right, again and again and again if need be), the phrase has dual meaning--the sands of time are slipping away both long- and short-term! Hurry up!! says the voice in my head.

I told Lee Ann that if I ever had my own sewing room I would stencil the words on the wall, to spur me onward. But, I'm not clever enough to work with stenciling, so I just set the type and had Kinko's blow it up to fit a 36" wide ready-made frame I found. It makes me laugh, think of her, and speed up the process when I see it.
