Goody! Shopping Counts as an Artist's Date!

I have been somewhat unwilling to go on an Artist's Date so far. I rationalize this resistance not as putting up impediments for myself, but as being superfluous, because lately I'm spending so much time trolling office supply & discount stores to equip my new sewing room. Now Debra tells us she can't sew till she goes to IKEA, and that she will count that trip as her Artist's Date. Yippee! My conscience is clear because I agree with her. Coming from interior design backgrounds, space planning is a big deal to us. When I cruise any department of any store, my mind whirrs with alternate-use possibilities for everything I see. That counts as creativity in my book!

All the hours spent on getting this sewing room just right add up to a lot of creative energy too. I tested the waters by sitting down to sew for a little while the past two nights. Don was tucked in down the hall, reading, as I sat down at my Swiss Miss. Within a few minutes I let out a loud woo-HOOOO!!! As DGD Ella said about Halloween, it was funner than the mall! I heard him chuckle and I laughed out loud in response.

It had been a funny day--my Wednesday off--and we worked half the day together on my sewing room. In the Sam's Club parking lot we had fought to stuff a twin bed set into the trunk of a Cadillac (don't ask--we have children with SUV's but sometimes kids are more trouble than they're worth). A nice man returning to his pick-up truck, which was parked beside us, joked about swapping vehicles with us, and then sincerely offered to drive the mattress set home for us. We felt like idiots but graciously declined his offer.

The next pair of pigeons to pull in beside us couldn't resist jumping to our aid, and before long three men were sweating and contorting the poor mattresses into submission. Don can be pretty testy in such situations, but we maintained a sense of humor and thanked the nice men profusely (gotta love the South). It was a GORGEOUS warm autumn day and we had a beautiful slow ride home (trunk lid flopping), down leafy lanes (no interstates, needless to say), windows down and fresh air flowing. I said, "I haven't had a drive in the country in ages. This is delightful!" Attitude is everything.

So if anyone inquires about my weekend Artist's Date, they can find me putting the artistic and creative final touches on my [insert name here] room. Hmmmmmmm,
